les Shisa sont des bêtes légendaires d'Okinawa. Un sur la droite ouvre sa bouche, l'autre à gauche ferme sa bouche. La bouche ouverte indique le son ''a '' et celle fermée le son ''un''. ''a'' et ''un'' sont les symboles de début et de fin.

これは、沖縄（おきなわ）の伝説（でんせつ）の獣（けもの）の像（ぞう）、シーサーです。口（くち）を開（ひら）いているのは右（みぎ）に、口（くち）を閉（と）じているものは、左（ひだり）に置（お）くのが普通（ふつう）です。 開（あ）いてる口（くち）は、「あ」、閉（と）じてる口は「うん」と意味（いみ）し、物事（ものごと）の始（はじ）まりと終（お）わりを意味（いみ）しています。

These are Shisa that are Okinawa's mythical beasts. The Shisa on the right has a closed mouth and the one on the left has an open mouth. The open mouth is meant to be forming the sound “a” , while the closed mouth is forming the sound “un” . “a” and “un” are also symbolic of beginnings and endings.
